African American quilting is almost as old as the history of America. African-American women recycled cloth as a means of survival. Quilts served a practical function and were used for bedding and warmth.
The women designed their quilts utilizing the scraps and rags which were allotted to them. Slave women exchanged old blankets and thick cloth among themselves.
Over the years, quilting has evolved into an art form. Painters and quilt artists can capture a moment in time using different mediums. Today quilts are used to tell a story or commemorate a special event.
Linda carries on the tradition of so many before her--meticulously selecting the perfect textiles and accents. Her work has a three-dimensional quality that adds depth and brings the fabric to life.
